Steve Clarkson has been in the Wine Industry for more than 25 years.
Raised in Coonawarra his first role was as a Laboratory Technician in a local winery, this was quickly followed with a change to hands on cellar work. This was the spark that started a winemaking career.
After a vintage in the Hunter, Steve completed his Winemaking degree at Roseworthy.
His career as a Winemaker commenced with Ryecroft in McLaren Vale in 1988, coinciding with the start of the Australian Wine Industry boom. After 3 years in one of Australia’s best wine-growing regions, Steve moved back to the iconic Hunter Valley.
This move, in 1990, was with Pernod – Ricard and signalled the start of a 24 year career with Orlando.
After 7 years as Winemaker Manager of Hunter Estate and Richmond Grove wineries, Steve moved to the Barossa, continuing as Winemaker for Richmond Grove and adding the mantle as site manager. During the next 10 years the site grew to a 50,000 tonne red facility, producing not only iconic high end wines but consistently high quality commercial wines.
2008 saw Steve transfer to Rowland Flat, where, over the next 6 years he held several roles across the business. These included Bottling and Commercial management, Capital Development, Contract Processing, Winery & Laboratory Management, brand promotion and lastly Winemaking Management.
Steve joined VA Filtration / Memstar in October 2014 to assist the team in both an operational and technical role and promote the value of this unique business to the wider Australian wine industry.
